Blown away by award nomination
A SNP councillor known for ridding woodland areas of litter and waste has been short listed for an environmental award.
Ayr East councillor Chris Cullen has been nominated for the Environmental Impact Award at the inaugural LGiU Scotland and CCLA Councillor Awards.
The awards, held at Edinburgh City Chambers, will mark the first Councillor Achievement Awards in Scotland.
Councillor Cullen, the only one from South and East Ayrshire to be nominated , has been known to jump into cold water, braving Kincaidston’s litter hotspot burn to free it from trollies, toys and even an old motorbike.
The awards recognise and reward those councillors who go the extra mile for their constituents.
The Environmental Impact Award, which councillor Cullen has been nominated for, celebrates councillors who have made an outstanding contribution to their local or wider environments.
Councillor Cullen said that he was shocked and blown away to be nominated. He added: “When I read the email I was speechless – initially I thought it was a joke until I Googled it.
“This nomination has highlighted that people in my locality have an interest in protecting their environment which it extremely encouraging.
“Everyone should play their part in trying to protect our future – even if it’s something small like taking your litter home. This world is for everyone – wasteful society is detrimental to us all.”
The inaugural Councillor Awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, November 29.
