First couple of Burns
There’s always been a third person in the marriage of John and Margaret Skilling – Robert Burns to be precise!
Now the devotees of the Alloway bard have each been effectively ordained into the Burns hall of fame.
Both have become Honorary Presidents of the World Federation of Burns Clubs. They were honoured at a celebration evening on Friday by Alloway Burns Club and attended by a crowd of more than 100 friends, family and Burns aficionados from across Scotland.
The Skillings are both past presidents of Alloway Burns Club and Margaret, a volunteer guide at the monument and gardens, is past president of the Ayrshire Association of Burns Clubs. John is past president of the Robert Burns World Federation and Alloway Burns Club,
The club’s Maureen Leitch said: “We even had Alloway past president Martin Cassidy link up with us live from Prague to send his best wishes to the Skillings.
“There was a very high standard of entertainment and supper which was enjoyed by all.”
