With Hallowe’en and Bonfire Night out the way, that means the countdown to Christmas is officially on.

But have you started your Christmas shopping yet or are you a last minute dasher?

We took to the streets of Ayr town centre to find out what people in the town thought .

Grandmum- of- eight Senga Hamilton, of Ayr, said she will start her Christmas shopping next month.

“It’s too early just yet,” she said. “I am organised and have my list of what to get people.

“And I do have a big family with eight grandchildren but I’ll start in December.”

Barry Whalen, a funeral director, agreed it was too early to start playing Santa.

He said: “We’ve just had Hallowe’en then Bonfire Night. Life’s going by quick enough – everyone’s always rushing about.

“If you start too early you end up fed up of Christmas by the time it comes.”

Gemma Carfray, 22, of Ayr said: “I’ll do mine at the start of December.

“When I get to November payday then I’ll start thinking about it.”

But mum- of- two Iona Caldwell, 22, was quite chuffed to say she had already been buying for her youngsters. Iona said: “I’ve got two young kids so I have to start early.

“But it’s more about balancing the budget. “And I might pick up some Black Friday deals.”
