Buy into Belmont estate

-

Actual council houses on this estate must now be rarer than hen’s teeth.

When the right to buy programme was introduced who would have thought that a former council house could command a six figure sum?

Just how successful the now 31- year- old initiative has been is mirrored in a sale this week.

This is prime Belmont in leafy south Ayr, possibly one of the best council estates in the land.

A semi in desirable Morton Road – not far from the top Belmont Academy – is for sale at offers over £ 136,000.

It sits on a corner plot with Belmont Crescent and has plenty of space for all the family.

There are three bedrooms upstairs, but the shower room is at ground level, so a possible improvement would be to take over the smallest bedroom or install an en- suite.

At the moment one of the bedrooms is used as a dressing room with fine hanging space built- in.

Black Hay estate agents reveal: “There is a private driveway and garage and it has been extensively upgraded by present owners at considerable expense.”

The large lounge is more than 17 feet and the feature staircase has a window half way up.
