Bowls squad listed

Ayrshire bowls stars are to play a key role in the Scottish team heading for next year’s Atlantic Championships in Wales.

Paul Foster, Claire Johnston and Hannah Smith form part of the squad heading south next May.

The event is the qualifier for the World Championships in 2020.

Foster joins pairs partner Alex Marshall and fellow Commonwealth Games gold medal winners Derek Oliver, Ronnie Duncan and Darren Burnett in the men’s squad.

Johnston and Smith are named in the women’s team alongside Caroline Brown, Stacey McDougall and Megan Grantham.

Head coach, David Gourlay, said: “I’m delighted at the quality of players who have made themselves available for this critical competition.

“The selected team is a mixture of experienced and emerging players.”
