Another 53 homes set for the village
A new housing estate could be built in Coylton after a developer got approval for planning permission in principle.
Hope Homes want to erect 53 properties in a field with two, three, four and five bedrooms. The 2.8 hectare plot sits on Manse Road at Hillhead on the Cumnock end of the village. Plans include bungalows and two- storey homes with detached, semi- detached or terrace options. C o u n c i l l o r s a p p r o v e d planning in pr i n c i p l e at the South Ayrshire Council Regulatory Panel on Thursday. Traffic would access Manse Road to get to the new development, the meeting heard. And the bus stop on the main street would be upgraded to show bus arrival times, if the homes get the final go- ahead. Objections have been voiced about drainage concerns, flooding, parking, traffic and wildlife. But no objectors spoke out against the building bid at the meeting but their concerns have been posted online. Sheila Penny raised concerns about traffic and the Coylton Primary School roll on behalf of the Kyle and Carrick Civic Society. Her objection online said: “There is likely to be considerable traffic congestion with an additional 50 plus houses in the vicinity. Joining the A70 at peak times presents difficulties to existing residents.” She added: “Finally the infrastructure locally has to be considered including the increase to the school roll at Coylton Primary.” Annette Mingay, of Manse Road, is worried about the impact on wildlife and traffic. She said an increase in vehicles could “endanger life.” She said: “The Hillhead area of the A70 is a dangerous road during peak times, and I have often had to wait a considerable time to get across on foot when there is a lot of traffic during the day.” Mrs Mingay pointed out she has spotted a Barn owl in Coylton. She said: “If this application is granted, we will lose most of the wildlife that is attracted to this area.”
