A speical running event is coming to town.
Cannonball Events and the Scottish International Airshow have announced the arrival of the Go Festival Ayr.
This will be Ayr’s first- ever Scottish Athletics- registered, professionally measured and chip- timed half- marathon race.
There will also be a 10k and an innovative opportunity for families to cycle either distance.
The chance to run or cycle past some of Scotland’s most historic sites on safe closed roads has never been done before.
The Go Festival will be held on Saturday, September 7 2019 during the afternoon going through to the evening.
There will be a seafront start and finish, and organisers hope thousands of spectators will turn out to cheer home the runners and cyclists in the evening light.
The winners will receive their medals in front of a large audience and then there will be a two aircraft night air display and then a firework finale.
Go Festival have launched already and registration for the events are open via the website.
John Lloyd, founder of Cannonball Events, is looking forward to the Go Festival.
He said: “We are so proud to be given this opportunity and work on creating one of the biggest road races in Scotland in Ayr.
“Our events welcome all runners, cyclists and wheel chair racers regardless of ability or experience.
“This is a race in Ayr for Ayr. However, we also expect to attract many participants and visitors across the UK and this will have a positive effect on the local economy.”
Organisers have revealed that a former Olympic runner and European gold medalist has already committed to entering, and they are confident more big names will get involved.
Combat Stress will also partner with the Go Festival.
A Combat Stress spokesperson said: “We are delighted and honoured to partner with the Ayr Running Festival and to join in the celebrations in what is our Centenary year.
“As the UK’s leading veteran’s mental health charity, we are very aware of the therapeutic benefits of exercise and to be part of an event in one of Ayrshire’s most picturesque locations is fantastic.
