CYCLING

New Chairman of Ayr Roads/ Harry Fairbairn CC Harry Bawley welcomed the club’s three new sponsors. Ayrshire Cycling Services of Prestwick, John Gemmell Coachworks, Auchinleck and Matrix Transport Services, Glasgow have now joined the Roads Club long term sponsors Harry Fairbairn BMW. Alan Thomson, one of the club’s longest serving members has also renewed his sponsorshi­p, under @ giantonthe­giant. Meanwhile honorary life member of The Roads club, John Mason collected a swathe of medals at the League of Veteran Racing Cyclists at the Track Championsh­ips held in the Newport Velodrome, Wales.

John won three Golds, one Silver and one Bronze in the various track discipline­s in his age category to round of an excellent season.

• The midweek group recorded a 60 ride by way of Crosshill before the ascent of Glenalla Fell.

They then dropped down to North Balloch with a stop at Barr before the climb of the Screws, passing Penkill Castle onto their homeward leg via Dailly.

The main Sunday run headed for the Cumnock roads taking in a 50 mile circuit.
