Millar sets sights on old club

-

Beith boss John Millar is buzzing ahead of the glamour tie against his former side.

The former Honest Man was loaned into Somerset Park when he was a teenager by the legendary Ally MacLeod from Airdrie in the 1980s.

He reckons that he didn’t have any special Somerset memories, and he’s hoping to lump misery on to the Championship leaders.

Millar said: “You either want a game you can win, or you want the biggest tie you can get.

“So we got the latter, as soon as it came out the hat I said ‘ I will look forward to that’.

“It’s two Ayrshire sides, it won’t be easy – but we aren’t in the competition to win it.

“This is the hardest tie we could have got, it was the same when we drew Morton a couple years back when they were flying high.

“But we didn’t give Morton a good game, I would like to think we have learned from that and as long as we give Ayr a game I’ll be happy.”

He added: “When Bellsdale is busy, it’s a cracking atmosphere.

“This game is going to be a specatacle, no doubt about that – we are all looking forward to it.”

He played for Largs Thistle in a match towards the end of his career, and when he managed Clydebank he loaned players to Beith – including current Hamilton manager Martin Canning.

Boal said: “I can’t remember if it was a league game he played for Largs, but I do remember that he absolutely strolled the match at sweeper position.

“It was a long time ago, whether he remembers it or not is a different question!”
