Is it too early to put up Christmas decorations?

Views shared on run- up to festive period

With Christmas just around the corner, people have already began to put up their decorations.. but is it too early?

Christmas decorations are an integral part of the festivities and recent reports have claimed that hanging up your trinkets in November can “improve your mood”.

We hit the streets to find out the public’s opinion.

Gordon McVie, from Ayr, said: “No it’s far too early, especially before December - we get the decorations down fairly quickly as well.”

Gordon’s wife. Janice, added; “I’m in charge of putting up the decorations. I usually put them up the second Sunday in December, never before. That is just a bit too early.”

Lawyer Graeme McKinstry, of Ayr, believes that the town should have the Christmas decorations up early to “lighten people’s spirits”.

He said: “Personally, my wife has the privilege of putting up the decorations in December usually.

“I wouldn’t put them up earlier than that but I do think in terms of the town, the sooner the decorations go up the better because I do think that would lighten people’s spirits, get them into the festive mood and be a very attractive decoration for a tired and depressing town centre.

“The sooner they go up the better.” Provost Helen Moonie, added: “I’m always so busy my decorations go up the day before but I suppose it is what keeps people happy.”
