Harriet’s Royal bid

- Lochlin Highet

One of Ayrshire’s most glamorous beauties is set to hit the national stage.

Harriet Peace, 25, scooped last year’s Miss Ayrshire prize, and she handed over her crown to Shelley Smith of Ardrossan after her whirlwind year.

And now the blonde Mauchline stunner has her eyes on the Miss Royal United Kingdom award, which is decided in July.

She has qualified for the final of the special event, after she met the current holder of the prize when they were both judging the Miss Edinburgh competition.

Harriet said: “I had no intentions of entering anymore competitions after the Miss Ayrshire prize.

“But I met the girl who holds the Miss Royal United Kingdom crown and she was telling me about it.

“It made me want to apply for it and now I have made it through to the final.

“I am really excited, as I was sad to hand over my crown - so it would be amazing to win this new award.”

She added: “There is two parts to the competition.

“There is Miss Royal United Kingdom, who does all the photoshoots and the appearances throughout the year.

“Then there is Miss Charity United Kingdom, who does all the work with charities over the year.

“When I entered the competition my name goes in for both anyway.”

Harriet’s role as Miss Ayrshire means that she has been working closely with charities.

She also helped raise money for Crosshouse Hospital Children’s Ward, as well as raising thousands for Kidney Research with a number of events.

Along with that, she gathered food for Cumnock Cats Protection through donations.

And now she has started a special venture.

She said: “The girl who won Miss Edinburgh has asked me to do a lot of animal charity work over the year.

“And I will also be working alongside the new Miss Ayrshire helping her out, and we have a Golf Day lined up next year.”

Harriet added: “Last year’s Miss Ayrshire competition was the first one I entered.

“I can only enter these pageants until I am 28, so I kind of wish I had started sooner to be honest.”
