Victim Keith visited in hospital

- Lochlin Highet

A dad who suffered a bleed on the brain has been cheered up in hospital by footie legend Ally McCoist.

Joiner Keith Speirs, 50, was brutally attacked in Prestwick Main Street and left with a fractured skull.

A man has now been charged in court with assault to severe injury. Keith was injured in an attack during the early hours of last Sunday morning.

Mr Speirs had come across a fight involving two groups of men outside the town’s B& M superstore.

He was knocked to the ground following the bustup which allegedly saw thugs taunting Kilmarnock footballers.

Keith, of Kilmarnock, was rushed to hospital where his condition was “serious.”

He is continuing to recover.

And Keith was given a boost when Rangers legend McCoist stopped by his ward with a Light Blues top.

Posting on Facebook, he said: “First time I’ve posted in a week, smile hasn’t been off my face since.”

Police have since arrested and charged Clarke Boon, 20, of Ayr.

Boon appeared in private at Ayr Sheriff Court on Wednesday accused of assault to severe injury, assault and threating or abusive behaviour.

He was given bail and the case was continued for examination.
