A woman has been recognised for going above and beyond at the village butchery.

Marion Ward who works as a trainee at Dawson Butchers in Muirkirk triumphed in the Extra Mile Award at the recent Scottish Craft Butcher Training Awards.

After working in the shop for 21 years, Marion was nominated by customer, Lyndsey O’Donnell.

Lyndsey said: “Marion is always so welcoming and always asks after my family and caters to my needs. I feel that Marion goes the extra mile to ensure that customer service is top priority.

“Marion never hesitates to make sure I get what I need. It’s such a lovely shop, a real pleasure to frequent.

“And she always prepares my favourite beef olives made with pork sausages.

Owner of Dawson Butchers, Diane Dawson, admitted that it took her three days to convince Marion to attend the awards.

She said: “We were thrilled to hear Marion Ward has been shortlisted for the Extra Mile award. She has done so much for the shop and Muirkirk. She truly is our star.

“She is celebrating her 21st Christmas with us and is an invaluable member of ‘ Team Dawson.’

As well as looking after her customers, Marion also takes part in raising money for charity through her baking skills.

Diane added: “Marion makes tablet, sells it in the shop and donates all the money to various charities. Her grandson has just had his head shaved for charity and Marion donated £ 200 of her tablet money to that and has already given £ 100 towards our defibrillator fund raising.”
