Legacy of the Ayr Club

-

It was the last throw of the dice for an old gents club that has passed into history.

The Ayr Club was 147 years old when it closed in December due to dwindling membership.

As a lovely legacy all that was left in the bank account had been donated to the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity.

That was £ 260 but with the help of donations over several month, that legacy has risen to a round £ 1000.

And in a parting shot the Ayr Club said: “We are sure all members will be delighted that the club’s last order of business has been a benevolent act of generosity to a very worthwhile cause.”

For former member Ronald Lennox, the choice of charity is also personal.

He is pictured with his eight- yearold grand- daughter Jessic, who also lives in Ayr, and isunder the ongoing care of the hospital.

On the right of the picture is Robert Lang, also ex of the Ayr Club.
