Windaes bid for Wee bit of glory
An Ayr pub is bidding to be named top of the froths at Westminster.
The popular Wee Windaes has been nominated for UK Parliamentary Pub of the Year.
Eighty boozers will do battle after being shortlisted by their constituency MPs.
The Windaes, run by former Ayr footballer Jim McSherry, has been given the nod by town Tory, Bill Grant.
Jim said: “We’re thrilled just to be considered.
“This is a very prestigious award and it’s a big boost for all of the staff to be in the running.”
Staff must now submit a video presentation in order to reach the next stage of the contest.
Windaes regular Iain Ferguson, who is helping the pub with their bid, said: “This place is almost unique in Ayr – a community pub in the heart of town.
“Over the years, Jim and the regulars have raised significant amounts of money for local causes like the Ayrshire Hospice and Ayrshire Cancer Support.
“I can’t think of a more deserving winner.”
Punter Jackson Anderson added: “Jim’s warm welcome is legendary and that’s why the regulars come back.”
