Take the high road with ramblers

-

On Saturday, December 1, Ayr & District Rambling Club will offer two walks. The more strenuous option is a seven- mile walk with a total ascent of about 630 metres starting at the car park beside the Water of Ken ( grid ref. NX662: 993) east of Carsphairn.

The walk goes along the track to Lorg farm before climbing fairly steeply north onto Lorg Hill. The route continues along the ridge towards Meikledodd Hill before heading south- west to the summits of Alwhat and Alhang, then finally descends fairly steeply to Nether Holm of Dalquhairn by way of Mid Rig. For details, contact David Allison on 01292 739529.

The easier option is an eight- mile walk on quiet roads, field tracks, and paths, starting in the square at Catrine and leaving the village to join minor roads at the play park. The route goes gently uphill to Crofthead Farm, then across a field to the Sorn- Galston road. A field track leads to Sorn Mains, and the walk continues on minor roads to Sorn, passing through Spooky Woods and back to Catrine along the River Ayr Way. Contact John Walter on 01292 560341. Meet at the Millbrae car park in Ayr at 8.50 am.
