UWS has appointed a new dean for its school of computing, engineering and physical sciences.

Professor Carl Schaschke joined UWS from Abertay University in Dundee, where he was head of the school of science, engineering and technology.

He is the author of five books, including the ‘ Dictionary of Chemical Engineering’, and has received both an Esso Engineering Teaching Fellowship and Media Fellowship.

Professor Schaschke said: “I’m honoured to be joining such an inspiring and forwardthinking institution and I look forward to meeting and working with colleagues and students across the university.

“The disciplines of computing, engineering and physical sciences only continue to grow in importance to our daily lives and I look forward to leading the school and working to further strengthen the uni- versity’s ties with industry, enabling colleagues and students to con- tinue to make a positive, lasting and demonstrable impact on society.”
