Festive blitz appeal

- Stephen Houston

Police have launched their Festive Safery street initiative only days after killing, a knife rampage and serious assaults.

The campaign is to “ensure Ayr and other town centres are safe and attractive places to be during the festive season.

It will run until January 6 and police officers will be joined by South Ayrshire Community Support Workers who will wear body cams to capture incidents on film.

Taxi marshals will be on Boswell Park in Ayr and Prestwick Street Pastors and St. Andrews First Aiders will also be on hand.

Chief Inspector Derek Frew, of Ayr Police Office, said: “My officers will have a more visible presence in towns throughout South Ayrshire and we will be working with partners with the aim of preventing incidents and allowing everyone to enjoy this busy time of year. I would encourage friends, family and colleagues to look out for each other on nights out and ensure everyone gets home safely.”
