Drunk on wrong side of road

A drunk driver who flew through a pedestrian crossing on the wrong side of the road has been banned from getting behind the wheel.

David Armitage, 43, admitted dangerousl­y driving his car at Ayr Hospital.

Armitage, of Cardwell Road in Gourock, pled guilty to driving on the access road to Ayr Hospital dangerousl­y colliding with a roundabout, driving on the opposing carriagewa­y through a pedestrian crossing at the entrance to A& E.

He also admitted returning to the correct side of the road, mounting a kerb and narrowly avoiding a collision with a concrete wall all whilst under the influence of alcohol.

As an alternativ­e to custody, Armitage was placed under supervisio­n for 18 months and must attend for alcohol treatment.

He was banned from the roads for 18 months and must resit his test.
