Gates to the manor

-

Often gatehouses do outlive their mansions.

And the North Lodge at Netherplace is a prime example.

Netherplace House, a fine mock- castle come multi- chimneypotted pile, dating from 1620, and a regular haunt of the Eglinton Hounds.

But it was razed in the 1960’ s after centuries under Campbell family ownership.

The North Lodge is tiny, but great for one person and is described as a “one bedroom detached bungalow.”

The entire interal area is a diminutive 377 square feet.

It’s in the centre of Mauchline and has a price through Clyde Property of offers over £ 65,000, so not going to break anybody’s bank.

The main drag to the former big house still exists and provides a nice entry.

You have private parking from the drive to the front.

The lounge is cosy but skinny, at just over nine feet wide but nearly 18ft long so their is space to eat too.

Kitchens don’t come much smaller and this one is seven foot nine inches square.

The single bedrooms is just over nine feet by seven feet and the bathrooms not much smaller.

Agents Clyde said: “It is gorgeous and quaint, a former gatehouse right in the centre of town yet immediately near open countryside.”
