Strait A’s for proud primary school

Inspectors commend ‘ high quality’ education

- Lochlin Highet

A primary school and nursery has been commended by HM Inspectors for the high quality of education they provide.

A positive inspection report from Education Scotland found consistently “good” performance across the board at Stration Primary School and Eary Years Centre.

The inspectors came to their conclusions after a recent visit to the school that included discussions with parents, children and staff.

The inspection team found the following strengths in the school’s work:

• Headteacher Liz Candlish leads the strong staff team to achieve the best quality educational experiences in a learning environment which is nurturing and encouraging.

• The motivated children who are engaged in their learning. Their exemplary behaviour is respectful and caring of adults and each other.

•The strong links and involvement with members of the community.

They feel valued by staff and enhance children’s outdoor experiences and enterprise activities.

The following areas for improvement were identified:

• The school should take steps to increase the pace and progression of children’s learning to raise attainment.

• Assessment data collected from a range of sources should now be acted on more consistently to ensure maximum impact on the attainment of a few learners.

• A structured approach to develop more independent learners, who can talk about their learning and be clear about their next steps.

Councillor William Grant said: “I’m pleased to see such a positive report for Straiton, with staff delivering high quality learning for all children, something that should come as welcome news to families.

“Headteacher, Liz Candlish, was singled out for providing strong leadership, with the school thriving and providing a nurturing environment that is inspiring children to embrace learning and to care for each other.

“I would like to thank everyone involved for working hard to maintain the high standards at Straiton.”

Inspectors are confident that the school has the capacity to continue to improve and so they will make no more visits in connection with this inspection.

A copy of the report is available on the Education Scotland website.
