Yob caught with weapons twice in one day

A 32- year- old man was twice caught carrying weapons in public on the same day.

John Mactaggart, a prisoner, was found with a scalpel on Mauchline’s High Street and later with a machete at Robert Burns Place and High Street on September 20.

The weapon- wielding yob has been behind bars since the incident.

Solicitor Tony Currie said:

“Mr Mactaggart is remanded in custody and appreciates he faces a period of imprisonment.

“I’d invite the court to defer sentencing to call for background reports.”

Sheriff John Montgomery agreed to call for reports.

But the sheriff warned him: “I don’t want you to have any false hope.

“You’ve pled guilty to having with you in a public place a scalpel and machete.”

Mactaggart will reappear in court at a later date.
