Making history

A time capsule filled with memories and images from the Year of Young People was buried at Dumfries House.

The time capsule marked the end of a busy year filled with a Colour Run, a sitting of the Scottish Youth Parliament in Kilmarnock, the first annual hearing of the East Ayrshire Children and Young People’s Cabinet, Play Day, two youth conferences and an awards evening.

It will be dug up in 50 years. Depute Provost Claire Leitch said: “2018 has been a fantastic year in which our young people have really had a chance to shine.

“My thanks go to everyone who has been involved, especially the steering group of Young People’s Cabinet members for all of the excellent work they have done to help make the voices of children and young people be heard more clearly in East Ayrshire.

“We look forward to continuing the legacy of Year of Young People and to building on the positive work that our young people have achieved this year.”
