Family pet injured in hit and run

-

A beloved family pet has been left fighting for her life after a horror hit and run.

Rosie, a striking Standard Poodle, was knocked unconscious when a driver mounted the kerb she was walking in Prestwick.

It missed her stunned owners and their other dog by mere inches before taking off “without hesitation”.

Now an urgent appeal has been launched to trace the culprit as Rosie, nine, battles for survival.

Owner Euan McCall, the Ayrshire Post’s chief photographer, revealed: “It all happened so quickly.

“The car mounted the kerb as it rounded the bend in the road and before we knew it, Rosie had been catapulted into the air.

“The driver would certainly have known all about it.

“But we saw no evidence of them wanting to stop – they just carried on without hesitation.”

The suspect’s vehicle is described as a four door metallic navy blue Mercedes saloon.

The incident took place on Prestwick’s Afton Avenue at around 3.15pm on Saturday, December 29.

Euan, 58, who was walking with wife Mel and their other pooch Mazie at the time, said: “Rosie is in the best hands and we’re staying positive.

“Two ladies very kindly stopped to help and we got her round to County Vets in Heathfield Road.

“She has since been transferred to the Glasgow Vet School where she remains in intensive care with life threatening injuries.

“All we can do now is keep our fingers crossed.

“The police are taking the incident very seriously and hopefully someone will have information or know who was responsible.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 and quote incident number PS20181229- 2794.

The driver would certainly have known all about it
