Lochside Mission’s Dylan says his final farewell

- ABI SMILLIE

A servant hearted youth worker who has worked tirelessly in the community will hang up his coat this week.

Lochside Mission and Outreach’s Dylan Harper will say goodbye to his position as project leader.

The charity help feed schoolchildren in disadvantaged areas of north Ayr and are widely recognised for being out and about in their big blue bus.

Last year they began their own food service, making and distributing meals to 500 families during the holidays.

But even bearing his sad news to others, Dylan sent a message of hope.

Dylan, 22, said: “My post is being made redundant as of January 11.

“This is a sad time but also a time to look back over the last eight years of work and life together and celebrate all that has been achieved.

“The future of LMO is not clear at this time, however I am sure the Kirk Session and the Operations Group will have more details in the weeks to follow.

“The church however will continue to exist as it has done since 1934.

Selfless Dylan was also a finalist for last year’s Sunday Mail Young Scot Awards in the Community category. Many supporters posted positive messages online in light of the end of an era news.
