When all around you are los­ing theirs, it’s vi­tal to keep the head.

So it’s vi­tal now – more than ever – that Ayr fans screw the nut.

The mid- sea­son wob­ble ( if you can call it that) is un­der­way.

In­juries abound, one win in seven... it’s near enough a full blown cri­sis. Well, some would have you be­lieve. In re­al­ity, Ayr re­main three points off the top with a game in hand.

A po­si­tion ALL fans would have jumped at back in Au­gust.

Has the re­cent form been a con­cern? Of lit­tle doubt.

But mash down this par­tic­u­lar gravy and tak­ing points on the road at Dun­fermline and Queen of the South is hardly end of the road stuff.

A truly dire Ross County were beaten at Mor­ton on Fri­day night in a re­minder that this league is ca­pa­ble of any­thing.

This Satur­day will, how­ever, re­sp­re­sent a test of Ayr United’s true colours.

In­ver­ness in the bleak mid­win­ter is never nice.

Mak­ing the trip with a half fit squad is even less at­trac­tive.

But go there and re­turn to Ayr­shire with some­thing in the bag, and it’s proof this sea­son’s dream re­mains very much alive.
