Blade raider flees with four- figure sum

A 27- year- old man has appeared in court charged with holding up a shop in Ayr.

Dean McKenzie appeared in private at Ayr Sheriff Court charged with assault and robbery and possession of a knife.

The popular shop keeper was concerned the incident occurred during the afternoon, when anyone could have been around the area and in the store.

Gohar said: “I’m more worried because it was broad daylight and that’s not good. People are just not scared of anything now.

Despite being held at knife point, Gohar kept a positive outlook and added: “It is upsetting - somebody is standing right next to me holding a knife. It’s not nice but we’ve got to get on with life.”

The knifeman ran off in the direction of Union Avenue.

On Monday South Ayrshire police officers swooped to arrest a man.

Dean McKenzie, 27, appeared in private at Ayr Sheriff Court charged with assault and robbery and possession of a knife.

McKenzie, said to be of no fixed abode, made no plea and was remanded in custody to appear again next week.

Sergeant Jane Hogg said: “I would like to thank the community and witnesses who came forward for their support which helped lead to this arrest.”
