Neighbours angry over sport pitch plan

-

results of a ground work survey as well as planning permission being granted and the outcome of a petition to the sheriff court, which is necessary as the proposals involve common good land.

A public consultation in November last year attracted 249 responses, with 208 in favour of the proposal for a new pitch and 39 against.

Nearly 46 per cent opted for Victory Park as a preferred location. It is near Girvan Academy and Girvan Primary and changing facilities are already available.

Councillor Brian McGinley said: “We received a strong response to the consultation, with the range of opinions voiced helping to mould the shape of the current proposals, and my thanks to everyone who took part.”

ButDavid Bova insisted: “South Ayrshire Council used a less than representative sample of the total population of Girvan.

“249 responses in total were returned following the November consultation, compared with a population size of approximately 6500. This equals roughly 4 per cent.

“Where is the logic of this for progressing a project which will be over £ 850,000 plus running costs if it is granted planning permission?”

Cllr McGinley said: “People will still be able to comment on proposals in the planning stage, with a further public consultation forming a key part of the process required to deliver a modern facility for Girvan and South Carrick.”
