Proud Ian receives silverware

-

There was only one place Troon’s new Citizen of the Year wanted to receive the silverware . . . in his local pub.

Pint- loving Ian Wilson was crowned the town’s top person for 2018 in the Harbour Bar.

So there was plenty drink on tap to help him celebrate.

Troon Community Council top brass assembled in the boozer to present the accolade.

Proud Ian, 74, was honoured for what he does to reduce isolation in the community.

And he himself admits: “Troon is full of people who sit in the house all day, never speak to anyone or see anyone. I have made it my mission to get them off their backsides.”

Retired care worker Ian, of Bradan Road, leads the three- times- a- week Scrabble group, an arts and crafts class, a quiz afternoon and film evenings.

Community Council chairman Helen Duff presented him with the award, watched by town royalty the Graham triplets.

Chairman Helen said: “Ian is being recognised for all his work, helping the community and encouraging people to enjoy companionship and share interests.”

Troon Community Council hold their meetings on the first Tuesday of every month at 7pm in Troon Town Hall, 8 South Beach Road. Troon. Anyone interested in community issues is welcome to attend.
