Troon D- Day

Twenty community groups in Troon, Barassie, Muirhead, Dundonald and Loans are celebratin­g after landing fresh funding.

Almost 280 people turned out to take part in the Decision Day event at Troon Concert Hall last Saturday.

South Ayrshire Dementia Support Associatio­n will use their funding to help transport clients to and from their day care centre in Prestwick.

The Good Companions group will use their money to encourage people out of social isolation while Beautiful Inside and Out will use their payment to help fund a councillor to work with young people in crisis.

Loans Social Hub drop- in will use their funding to help set up a monthly cafe offering low- cost lunches and advice on healthy eating.

Loans Community Centre Limited will use their £ 750 to help create a community garden.

South Ayrshire Council leader Douglas Campbell said: “These events have a great track record for getting people together to support projects that help celebrate community life. The creation of new networks also helps volunteers meet with like- minded people and potentiall­y look to joint working on larger projects in the future, something that has a domino effect in driving positive change.”

Grants of £ 750 were made to: Ayrshire Cancer Support, Irvine and Troon Cancer Care, South Ayrshire Dementia Support, Little Art School Trust, Royal National Institute of Blind People, Good Companions, Loans Social Hub drop- in, Friends of Troon Beaches, Seascape, Loans Community Centre Men’s Shed, Beautiful Inside and Out, St Patrick’s Fundraisin­g Group Fitness 101, Dundonald Primary School and Parent Council friendship garden, Friends of Dundonald Castle Young Archaeolog­y Club, 1st Troon Girls’ Brigade, 28th Ayrshire ( Troon) Scout Group Biking for Young Minds project, Dundonald Games Society 30th anniversar­y event and Live@ Troon free family events.

48th Ayrshire ( Dundonald) Scout Group was awarded £ 715 and Bradan Road Community Group received £ 485.

The money was provided by South Ayrshire Council, South Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnershi­p and South Ayrshire Alcohol and Drug Partnershi­p.
