As Flower Show returns
The third Ayr and District Flower will be back at Ayr Racecourse in August.
It promises to be the biggest yet, with more classes and more entertainment.
It is being switched this year to a Friday and Saturday to avoid a clash with the Sunday market.
Ticket prices will remain the same at just £ 5 and under- 16s free, new secretary Irene Yuill revealed.
The experienced administrator, now retired from Auchincruive College, has been drafted in to assist chairman Tom Brown and the committee of volunteers.
The show will be staged on August 16 and 17.
Secretary Irene revealed winners will not get a prize money cannot buy and added: “Adults will no longer get money for winning classes. Instead they will get a fine crystal keepsake. This will be engraved and presented for the best exhibit in each section.”
New classes will be introduced for the first time this year including Handicrafts, Baking, Preserves and Walking Sticks.
Lego Models and a Miniature Garden in a seed tray will be added to the junior section.
All classes will be FREE to enter. There will be a wide range of trade stands including some craft stalls. Ayr Racecourse will again run a Food Market in the Princess Suite. There will be Cookery and Floral Demonstrations. Irene added: “For the first time this year we will be joined by the Model Railway Club who will set up a display and musical entertainment will be on offer.” The organisers are looking for as many volunteers to help, including stewarding and unseen work in the background such as stage building and dismantling.
Chairman Tom Brown said: “To run the show we rely on the good will of the many volunteers who give up their time. We must thank everyone who has helped make Ayr & District Flower Show the success it has been over the last two years and hope we can count on their support again this year.
“It is a great family day out with something for everyone to enjoy.”
