Every girl’s dream… choosing that dress

-

By the time you’re ready to start shopping for your wedding dress, you’ve probably put together a pretty extensive wish- list about your dream gown.

We teamed up with Dream Brides in Irvine to offer some top tips for you to help you choose your perfect gown. To start, figure out which of our five featured body- types best defines your figure: petite, plus- size, busty, hourglass or lean and straight.

And remember, you may not fit squarely into one category – most people don’t.

Find a bridal dress consultant you can trust and don’t be afraid to try on gowns he or she suggests that fall outside of your traditional comfort zone.

And shop with a supportive crew for advice.

On the day of dress- hunting, do your make- up and hair. It will be much easier to imagine wearing one of these gowns on your wedding day if you don’t look like you have just rolled out of bed.

Petite – petite brides should avoid overwhelming their small frame. Choose airy sheaths and structured trumpet styles over big, frothy ball gowns.

A form- fitting shell underneath a gossamer tulle skirt is the perfect way to wear a more voluminous silhouette.

An empire waistline is a great style for petite figures. It creates the illusion of long legs.

Plus- size – whether you want to create the illusion of a smaller frame or celebrate your curves, we’ve got you covered ( or uncovered).

Asymmetrical pleating and neckline- to- knee embellishments make this curve- hugging gown more slimming. An empire waistline creates a lengthening effect while these fluttery chiffon sleeves act as the most ethereal cover up.

Minimize your waistline with design details that draw the eye inward ( think bodycon seams but with crystals).

A high neckline, sheath silhouette and slight train are the ultimate trio to help you look long and lean.

Busty – if you’re a busty bride, you’ve got two choices: reveal or conceal. Either way, finding the right gown starts with pinpointing the perfect neckline.

A square neckline looks great on almost anyone but it’s especially great for the well- endowed because its not too revealing.

Strapless gowns can be tough for brides with a larger bust but the straight- across version actually minimises your assets.

Lean and straight – because floor- length gowns were made with your model stature in mind, you’ve got lots of options to choose from.

Consider a dress with a slit to show off your great legs. A high neckline paired with a full, A- line skirt showcases and balances your height at the same time.

Go for an over- the- top ball gown ( we love this ballerinainspired style), it won’t overwhelm your tall figure.

Hourglass – Work your womanly curves in a bodycon gown or hide your hips in a big ball gown — either way, your gown should show off your trim mid- section.
