Music lovers recall their memories

The sudden shutdown of Ayr’s HMV store has sparked sorrow amongst shoppers.

Ten jobs were lost as the new owner wielded the axe on 27 stores across the country.

And all stock was shipped out to remaining stores - without any form of closing sale.

Jack Blades, boss of the town’s Slater Menswear said: “It’s such a shame.

“And unfortunately I think digital and online has dictated this.”

Sarah McClymont, 24, from Ayr agreed that online was taking over.

She said: “I think it’s sad and it’s just chipping a little bit more away from Ayr town centre- soon

there will be nothing left.

“I used to love a two for £ 10 CD bargain in HMV but now that could cover a months membership to an online streaming service.

“Unfortuntaely streaming sites and apps are too handy and cost effective for retailers like HMV to keep up.”

Andrew Downie of Ayr commented: “It’s sad for the community and I feel for the people who have lost their jobs.

“I was a regular customer for many years. Michael Hitchon MBE added: “It’s sad news. “I was just about to buy Shostakovich jazz suite number 2 but I’ll have to go somewhere else now.”
