Gut a move on to a forlorn villa

- STEPHEN HOUSTON

Regular readers will know I always like to bring unusual finds on the market.

Just when you think you’ve seen seen it all, a belter had the for sale sign hammered into the garden.

This one is hard to believe, a six bedroom town mansion in the heart of old Prestwick.

It has been left to rot for what looks like for a decade or more - so there is more than a lick of paint needed here.

“Midland” went on the market on Thursday on a “sold as seen” basis.

The price is offers over £ 250,000, but it could take nearly a six figure sum to get it back to habitable accommodation.

There is a huge stretch of land out the front and out the back. In fact vehicle access is at the rear because the front of Mansewell Road is pedestrian only.

Entry is off Kirk Street and the heavily wooded back garden flanks the Station Road medical practice.

A lot of work is needed to bring the gardens under control, and a plough would be handy.

The front - which views towards Station Road and possibly the sea from upstairs - has been largely lawn.

Inside you get a a full nine apartments - with six bedrooms all upstairs.

The old kitchen boasts a range cooker which does look as if it is original.

Other features include big bay windowed rooms with fancy ceiling details and an original banister.

Inside there are signs of water damage and some of the windows have been boarded up. But there does not appear to be any major issues.

“Midland” offers a rather rare opportunity for a giant family villa in A 1 position for the town and train.

A smaller four bedroom villa in Mansewell Road of similar age sold for £ 475,000 last year . . . so there is a gain to be had.

Black Hay estate agents are the sellers and they say: “This is a unique opportunity to create a stunning home.”
