Robbie Muir ( Kilmarnock Barassie) won the 68th Troon Links Championsh­ip, beating Greg Nichol ( St Meddans) by one hole at Royal Troon on Saturday night.

In the semi- finals, Muir beat Blair Morton ( Royal Troon) 2& 1 while Nichol was a 4& 2 winner over Greg Vernon ( Kil Barassie). • Fourteen clubs have entered the Ayrshire Club Championsh­ip forth eR. L. Crawford Trophy at Prestwick St Cuthbert on Sunday, July 7.

Hazel won the St Rule Trophy in St Andrews earlier this month and also had top ten finishes in the Portuguese Internatio­nal Ladies Amateur Championsh­ip, The R& A Foundation Scholars Tournament, the Helen Holm Scottish Women’s Open and the Irish Women’ s Open Stroke Play Championsh­ip this year. •The West of Scotland Boys Championsh­ip faces the axe – unless there is a late surge of entries.

The strokeplay event is due at Williamwoo­d GC on Monday, July 22 with the matchplay following on Tuesday and Wednesday. Entry fee is £ 10 and the handicap limit is 12. • Prestwick St Cuthbert maintained a slim hope of reaching the knockout stages of the Ayrshire Handicap League Championsh­ip with a 3.5- 2.5 home win over Auchenharv­ie in section ‘ A’.

Ayr Seafield maintained their challenge in section ‘ B’ with a 5- 1 home win over Routenburn while Tam O’Shanter gained ground on leaders Kilbirnie Place with a 3.5- 2.5 home win.

Kilmarnock Barassie are clear leaders in section ‘ C’ after a 4- 2 win at Annanhill.

In section ‘ D’, Troon Portland share second spot with Braehead after a 4.5- 1.5 home win against West Kilbride while Redburn increased their lead with a 4- 2 home win over Braehead. • Division Three in the Ayrshire Scratch leagues has been reduced to five clubs following the withdrawal of Routenburn.

Although Troon St Meddans have a comfortabl­e lead, their 5- 1 defeat away to Royal Troon dented their title hopes while boosting the chances of a second successive title for Royal Troon.

In Division One, Prestwick St Cuthbert’s hopes of a fourth successive title hang by a thread following a 5- 1 defeat at Irvine.

With Turnberry losing 4- 2 at Loudoun and then beating Kilmarnock Barassie by the same score, Division One remains tight.

In Division Two, Caprington kept their hopes on track with a 4- 2 win at home to Ballochmyl­e who spurned the chance to go top.

Kilbirnie Place are clear leaders in Division Four from Moorpark and St Nicholas. • Moorpark and Braehead are the first two clubs to book places in the last eight of the handicap club team knockout for The President’s Putter.

Moorpark beat Loudoun 2- 1 win to set up an away tie against either Alton or NB Parkstone in the quarter- finals.

Braehead, who beat Stewarton 3- 0 in their third round clash, now travel to either Kilbirnie or Stewarton. • William Fleming and David Muir ( Ballochmyl­e) are the latest pairing into the quarter- finals of the Ayrshire Fourball Championsh­ip after beating Fraser Innes & Alex Kerr ( Largs) 4& 3. They now head to either Prestwick St Cuthbert or Kilbirnie Place. • Irvine GC have made an early bid for a place in the Ayrshire Junior League Championsh­ip final with a second and third successive victory in their qualifying section.

They top section ‘ A’ after beating St Nicholas 4- 2 away and Caprington 3.5- 2.5 away.
