It was one giant leap for mankind.

And now one small snap could help put Ayrshire on the world map.

It was one giant leap for mankind.

And now one small snap could help put Ayrshire on the world map.

This stunning image was captured at the top of Kildoon Hill, above Maybole, in the dead of night.

Behind the lens was Alasdair MacLeod who for years has sought the “perfect moon photo”.

To mark the 50th anniversary of Neil Armstrong’s crew touching down, Alasdair grabbed his moment. And the results were spectacular.

Ayr gymnast Etta Bell struck the pose with the clock striking 2am during last week’s partial lunar eclipse.

Maybole man Alasdair, a snapper at our sister paper the Daily Record, revealed: “Everything alligned, quite literally, for the shot.

“I knew we would have a very small window to get it done so it had to be right first time.

“I’ve wanted to do the perfect moon photo for years and this seemed like a fitting year.

“I’m delighted with the result and it will definitely be putting it forward for an award.”

Etta’s mum Eve added: “We answered Alasdair’s call for a willing model and it was a great experience.

“Etta was very excited by the whole trip and it was different to say the least – we were avoiding herds of cattle and bats on our way up the hill.

“She was a wee star and the photos are absolutely stunning.”
