Swimmers make national splash

the silver medal with a personal best time that saw her dip under the one minute for the first time.

Ross Erentz, 16, landed gold in the 100 freestylem while 14- yearold Duncan Young took victories in the 100, 200 and 800 freestyle along with bronze medals in the 50 and 400.

In the same age group teammate Dylan Cashmore joined Duncan on the podium for the runner up spot in the 50 freestyle.

Keira Stericker, in the 15 years age group, was just off her best in the 100 free to take the bronze medal.

However, she went one better in the 100 backstroke with a wellpaced personal best for the silver.

Eilidh Robertson, 12, and 16- year- old Matthew Gordon both came narrowly close to the podium with fantastic efforts and personal best times in their age group 200 breaststro­ke events.

Amber Stevenson best finishes came with personal bests in the 14 years 50 back and 100 free. Whilst Beth Gordon also finished 5 th in the 17- 18 years 200 fly.

Eve Mair joined the team in April and is showing improvemen­ts with a personal best in the 15yrs 400 freestyle for a best finish of seventh after being seeded 11th prior.

Sam Moore was also a finalist in the 100 freestyle were the 15- yearold recorded a best time to finish eighth overall.

Brooke Smillie finished just outside the top eight but raised her game to record a personal best in the 15yrs 50 freestyle for tenth place.

• John Houston, Oscar Smillie and Keira Stericker will be joining Katie Robertson, Caitlin Duffy, Lewis Hammond and Lucy Grieve in the last week of July at the British Summer Championsh­ips which will be held at Tollcross, Glasgow.

Senior Head Coach, Byron Stericker, said: “We’ve had some fantastic results at the Scottish Summer Championsh­ips and the swimmers really have stepped up on the big occasion to post best times when it matters.

“Most will now take a fourweek summer break with a small number competing at their season finale at the end of this month.”

Junior head coach, Brian Dalgleish, added: “The sport and many others teach youngsters so many life skills and dealing with big occasions or championsh­ips provides all the opportunit­y to grow.

“South Ayrshire Swim Team take pride in preparing athletes physically and mentally for championsh­ips and it’s hugely rewarding when we see these kinds of results and the positive effect it has on the swimmers”.
