Sparks fly over new PM Boris
South Ayrshire’s man in We s t m i n s t e r c l a i m e d “educational racists” are painting Boris Johnson in an unfair light.
Conservative MP Bill Grant launched a robust defence of the new Prime Minister.
Mr Grant backed a string of other hopefuls in the race for Downing Street.
But he said: “Now is the time to unite behind Boris in his bid to bring the country back together.
“There are people who want him to fail from the word go and they will happily cast him in a negative light but he must be given the chance and d maybe a high- risk strategist is just t what this country needs.”
Mr Grant, who represents Ayr, , Carrick and Cumnock, reckons s Johnson is being typecast because of his Etonian past.
He said: “That kind of talk is for educational racists.
“I certainly do not judge a man on the kind of school he went to.
“Boris now deserves all of our support in what will be a long and important journey.”
However, critics have been quick to round on the new man in number 10.
South Scotland Labour MSP Co Colin Smyth said: “Boris Johnson is a dangerous English nationalist. “His election will do more to bo boost support for independence tha than anything Nicola Sturgeon can do do.
“In the short term Boris Johnston has also made it clear that he would hap happily pursue a no- deal Brexit, whi which would spell disaster for the eco economy.
“It I is unforgivable that local Tories have given their backing to a course of ac action that will destroy jobs in their own region.”
