Anger over ‘ early bird’ ban at car boot sale

-

noticed a lot of people standing around outside the gates. I could see inside the racecourse and there were already many cars there.

“One of the stewards politely told me that the public were not now allowed in to buy until 10am. He explained that this was an edict from South Ayrshire Council and was outwith their control. What utter idiocy.

“The whole point of a car boot sale is to go early and snap up any bargains. I suspect it is another cunning ploy by South Ayrshire Council to stifle any form of business that is actually successful. Previous examples have been proposed car park charges and further restricted parking times in Troon. That is also complete lunacy.”

Peter is now warning that the new measure will kill off the popular car boot sale completely.

He added: “My prediction is that, very shortly, Ayr carboot sale/ Sunday market will become extinct.”

The Post understands that it is the organisers who’ve padlocked the gates following recent complaints about the trading times and the public’s access to stalls before the regulation times.

A spokesman for South Ayrshire Council said: “Following complaints from the public, we contacted the organisers of the market to remind them that as a condition of their licence they should only be trading between 10am and 4pm.”
