Alistair uses poetry to banish his demons
The site of a new £ 19 million super- school has finally been unveiled.
Education chiefs have plumped for Glenburn Primary as the location for their grand campus in Prestwick.
Pupils from neighbouring St Ninian’s will ship in as part of the ambitious move.
Plans for the 4.8 acre site have been officially lodged with South Ayrshire Council.
It follows an extensive period of consultation with parents and the community.
It’s hoped work on the campus will begin next summer, ready to welcome new pupils by December 2021.
The new school will house more than 500 pupils on the one site.
The site has extensive playing fields at the back.
But education bosses have stressed both schools will retain their “own identity” after the switch. A Royal Navy veteran, who has PTSD, has been selected to have his poetry showcased in two creative exhibitions in Edinburgh and Fife. Supported by military charity Help for Heroes, Alistair Parker of Ayr, has six poems featuring in the Creative Force exhibition which runs in Fife’s Lochgelly Centre until September 14.
His work will also feature in a second exhibition at Edinburgh Napier University in November. St Ninian’s, a Roman Catholic denominational school, is close by on Adamton Road North.
Pupils and staff will make the short Alistair, pictured left with his words, said: “I feel that by writing of the anger, the depression and the endless trail of medication, I can release the tension just by breaking away from the moment and becoming one with my ‘ demons’ by telling them through my words that I am strong, I am well and I am a survivor.”
Help for Heroes supports Regular and Reserve Personnel and Veterans who have suffered injuries or illness during or as a result of Service which impacts on their daily life.
The Charity also helps their close family and dependents.
