A Thorburn original in hospital

-

An artist has unveiled his newest masterpiece - on the walls of a hospital ward.

And the work has already become a talking point among the elderly patients and their visitors as a part of the hospital becomes an art gallery.

Ayr- based book illustrator Garry Thorburn runs The Caricature Card Company from his home . He produces portraits, wedding stationary and cards.

As part of his community work he regularly visits local schools.

But he decided to turn his creative eye towards the Biggart Hospital in Prestwick.

He displayed his new piece at the McMillan Ward.

Garry said: “My sister works at Biggart Hospital and I was keen to do anything I could to help stimulate the patients’ creativity.

“I decided to help brighten up one of the wards with a caricature depiction of Tam O’Shanter. “As it’s a well- known Scottish poem, I decided to depict the story in a caricature- style, which I hope will stimulate discussion and enjoyment.” Jim Mack, Charge Nurse, said: “We are very grateful to Garry for his unique and wonderful picture.

“It certainly brightens up the wall of our dayroom and we are delighted that we have a Thornburn original.”
