James Cassells, 16, 7 Glenmount, Bellsbank, Dalmellington, was seriously injured in a swimming accident.

It happened during high tide on the foreshore at Ayr opposite the Pavilion on Saturday night.

Companions noticed that he had got into difficulties.

And they managed to get to himand bring him ashore.

He was taken by ambulance to Ayr County Hospital.

It appears that when diving the youth struck a submerged object, perhaps a stone.

On Monday evening a deputation from the Skeldon Mills branch of the Dalrymple War Work Party met with their leader Miss Helen M Johnston, at Airidh and presented her with a handsome purse, well filled with Treasury notices, in appreciation of her unfailing kindness when they met at her home on work nights.

Miss Hutchison, Benston Smithy, made the presentation and , in a few well- chosen words, expressed the pleasure all felt working under so capable a leader.
