A plea to support the ailing Live@ Troon fest

- STEPHEN HOUSTON

The volunteers behind this weekend’s Live@ Troon festival have pleaded: “Please get out an support us.”

Band pull- outs - including Sleeper and Dr and the Medicas - have left fans and organisers shattered.

And it has been cut from three days to just two - this Friday and Saturday - after lousy ticket sales Sunday’s shows have all had to be binned.

In a desperate measure to keep the bill running, Sunday’s line- up has been blended into the Saturday.

The fringe in the town pubs will still endure for the three days.

News broke on Wednesday that the festival, which began in 2009, was in trouble.

And the organisers said: “This year it has been really difficult for a number of festivals to survive and we are very sorry to say we are one of them.

“Our ticket sales have been very poor despite what has been one of the best run social media campaigns we have ever rolled out however at the end of the day we need ticket sales to put on the weekend.

“We are determined the weekend will go ahead but to enable this in our current situation and be responsible financially we need to make a few changes.

“The Sunday of Live@ Troon is now being merged in with the Saturday.

“This is because amongst other things there are a changes going on due to band cancellations, breakups and ill health issues.”

Sleeper pulled out and have been swapped with Skerryvore and Torridon.

Refunds will be given to fans who were attending on the Sunday but can not make the Saturday.

A spokesman added: “While we know this will cause some upset and confusion we are genuinely are trying to keep the charity and music in Ayrshire alive and this is the way to do that.

“Please buy tickets, tell your friends to buy tickets - the Friday and Saturday are going to be a spectacular !

The Hillhouse Quarry main stage and futures stage sponsored by wood firm Glennon Brothers will still go ahead on the Friday and Saturday.

Torridon and Skerryvore have swapped from Sunday to Saturday to fill the massive gap left by Sleeper and Dr and the Medics.

A number of pubs in the town will also have free gigs

Please buy tickets and tell your friends to buy tickets. We are trying to keep it alive
