Keep Ayra tourist town
The Council has published a factual report on Ayr Station Hotel just short of 600 pages, to be followed by a final report with conclusions and costings at the end of September.
The facts given highlight a number of major problems. The key will be the cost. A new station which is glass and steel to last 25 years will cost £ 20m of government money with £ 4m plus for demolition. A conserved and redeveloped hotel building would keep the town scape intact and add value to Ayr as a Tourist Town.
Funnily enough, that would be a repeat performance since the original hotel was what opened Ayr up to be a holiday and leisure destination at the end of the nineteenth century, and even led to the same railway company building Turnberry six years after their Ayr hotel was opened.
