Culzean Castle’s Bill is first speaker at the opening of Alloway SWI

At the opening meeting of Alloway SWI, June Foreman introduced Mr Bill Rogers of Culzean Castle who took his audience on a virtual tour of the castle.

He was a most interestin­g guest and shared many anecdotes about the Kennedy family as he showed portraits of their forebears.

From the first photo of the entrance and Armoury to the drawings rooms, boudoirs with en suite commode facilities to the end visit to the Eisenhower Suite his informativ­e commentary gave an insight into the lives of the family.

Mr Rogers was an entertaini­ng speaker and inspired us to visit Culzean and book a tour round the Castle. Elaine Shields thanked him on behalf of the members.

Competitio­n winners were Best Anecdote about Culzean 1st Anne Griffiths and 2nd June Foreman. 3 pieces of tablet 1st Anne Griffiths and 2nd June Foreman and Flower Pupils at Heathfield Primary in Ayr were flying high when they were paid a visit by some birds of prey.

Falconer Raymond Colquhoun was the special guest and he wowed the P4 pupils with his display of Peregrine Falcons.

The pupils, who are currently learning about wildlife and habitats, were able to watch the birds in action and ask Raymond plenty of questions.

A school spokespers­on said:“Mr Colquhoun kindly brought in his birds of prey to meet P4 who are learning all about wildlife and habitats.“ of the Month 1st June Foreman, 2nd Marjory McCracken and 3rd Anne Griffiths.

The carpet bowling will continue in Alloway Church Halls from 1.30 to 3.30pm each Friday and the Craft Group will resume on Mondays from 10 until 12 in Alloway Village Hall.

And a fantastic Beetle Drive will be held at the next meeting on October 9 at 7.30pm in Alloway Village Hall.
