was brilliant and Richard Wiggins met us there and spoke to us about the street pastors.

“We had a whole mix of businesses, volunteers and community groups which was really good. It went really well so we’ll just need to wait and see what happens.”

For the second year in a row Prestwick wi l l compete for a £ 15,000 prize in the contest sponsored by Visa.

The Main Street is one of just 12 High Streets in Britain shortlisted in the Champion High Street category and if they win the cash it will be dedicated to a local initiative.

The winner is announced in November and Hugh is urging people to vote for Prestwick more than once.

He added: “Everyone should get online to vote. You can vote every day, not just once.

“I vote every day and it’s not been rejected. I think it’s a bit mad but those are the rules – vote every day folk.”

To vote go to thegreatbritishhighstreet. co. uk/ high- street- of- the- year- awards/ the- shortlisted- high- streets.
