Dig deep to find hidden treasures

-

Budding archaeologists will head to Dundonald on Saturday to search for hidden treasures.

Spaces are filling up fast for The Castle Excavations project.

Organiser Lauren Welsh says they will be looking for underlying structures of earlier castles.

And she reckons if they’re lucky there could be some artefacts to be found.

Lauren said: “This is our second big dig following the success of last year.

“A survey in 2017 led us to identify there was underlying structures so we’re looking for evidence of castles and forts lying underneath the current castle.

“This year we are focusing further down the hill looking for structures and proof of earlier settlement. It would be amazing if we can find some artefacts.”

The excavation will run until Friday, October 4.

There are two daily digging sessions, the first at 9.30am until 1.30pm and the second from 1pm to 4pm.
