Hugh’s venture in Ayr

Take another look back to the early 1980s as Sir Hugh Fraser opens a stylish menswear shop in Ayr’s Alloway Street.

Sir Hugh had earlier built on his father’s business successes. But in 1981 he lost the support of House of Fraser directors, and was removed from the board. He then opened a chain of shops in Scotland, including this one in Ayr, but it was a short- lived venture, and he died in 1987.
