Roaming pastors lend an ear and hand to revellers

-

Street pastors are gearing up for the busiest social events on the calendar.

Ayr and Prestwick Street Pastors, who are all members of local churches, will be out to lend a hand this weekend during Ayr’s Gold Cup.

The top racing event welcomes thousands to the town every year, with many race goers enjoying a tipple in pubs and clubs after watching the ponies.

The street pastors will be out to offer advice and the soothing comfort of flip flops for those with sore feet after wondering about in heels all day.

The good samaritans covered other top events throughout the blistering heat this summer, including Prestwick Prom and PrestFest.

And next on the cards will be looking out for the guises and ghouls of Halloween.

A spokesman said: “When people hear or they see the Street Pastors they often ask what it is we actually do and why we do it.

“The why is easy because we are all made in God’s image and he loves us all.

“The what is much more wide ranging and can involve everything from chatting to someone, to providing a pair of flip flops, administering first aid or trying to calm a tense situation.

“Our primary mission is to care, help and listen.”
