Man charged over dawn roof raid

A man was spotted on a roof in an early- morning attempt to break into a bowling club.

He was seen on the roof of Hawkhill Bowling Club in Ayr at 2am on Saturday.

Police had been called out - and found him throwing tiles onto the ground.

Ayr police spokesman Mark Wason said: “A 37- year- old man has been arrested and charged for allegedly being found on the roof with the intention of committing theft.

“He was conveyed to Ayr Police Station where he was held in police custody to appear at Ayr Sheriff Court.”

A 30- year- old man has been reported to the procurator fiscal for allegedly being in possession of Class A drugs. About 12.30am on Sunday officers searched a man who appeared to be under the influence of drugs at Carrick Street in Ayr. A quantity of drugs were recovered and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.

A man has been arrested and charged for driving while disqualifi­ed. About 12.45pm on Friday officers were patrolling the area of Scott Crescent, Troon, when they observed the man driving a white Ford Transit. The 27- year- old was held in custody at Ayr.

A 41- year- old woman has been reported to the procurator fiscal for alleged theft by shopliftin­g at Superdrug in Ayr High Street last Tuesday afternoon.

She was stopped within the store by staff for failing to pay for goods and police were contacted.
